The Drug Free Marion Coalition is committed to creating a healthier, safer community. A key part of that mission is helping residents safely dispose of expired, unused, or unwanted medications — no questions asked.

National Drug Take Back Day

Drug Take Back Day is a partnership between local groups and national agencies to provide a safe, anonymous way to clean out your medicine cabinet.

✅ What to Bring:

  • Prescription medications

  • Pills and tablets

  • Over-the-counter medicines

  • Expired or unused drugs

🔒 How it Works:

  • No questions asked

  • Identity-protected disposal

  • Environmentally friendly process

  • Containers are recycled securely

Year-Round Drop-Off Locations

If you can’t make a Take Back Day, you can still safely dispose of medications at any of these year-round locations:

233 W Center St, Marion, OH 43302 – Open 24 hours

📍 Marion County Sheriff's Office
100 Executive Dr, Marion, OH 43302 – Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4 PM

📍 Marion General Hospital Pharmacy
1000 McKinley Park Dr, Marion, OH 43302 – During pharmacy hours

📍 Walgreens
1321 Delaware Ave, Marion, OH 43302 – During pharmacy hours

🛡️ Protect Your Privacy:

  • Remove all personal information, including your name and the prescription (Rx) number

  • Use a black permanent marker or scratch it off before dropping off or recycling bottles

⚠️ Drop boxes do not accept liquids, needles/sharps, or illegal substances.

🏡 Safe Disposal at Home

If you don’t have access to a drop box, you can still dispose of medications at home using this method:

  1. Remove all personal identification from prescription bottles

  2. Mix medications (liquids and pills) with a substance like:

    • Used coffee grounds

    • Kitty litter

  3. Place the mixture in a sealed container or Ziploc-style bag

  4. Dispose of it in the household trash

  5. Recycle or throw away the empty medicine containers once personal info is removed
