Youth-Led Prevention

Youth-led prevention is programming where young people identify problems in their community, and address them through the education of their peers. The Drug Free Marion Coalition Coordinator is housed within the Marion-Crawford Prevention Programs (MCPP) agency office. MCPP collaborates with local school districts to implement the following youth-led programs in Marion and Crawford County.
Teen Institute (TI)
TI is based on the principle of peers encouraging peers to make positive choices and is the oldest youth led prevention program in the nation. Students can participate in the program at the school and county leve with each providing a different level of education and opportunity to build leadership skills.

Junior Teen Institute (JTI)
This program is specifically designed for eighth grade students. Students have the opportunity attend a weekend leadership conference to learn skills to become better drug-free leaders in their schools. After the conference, JTI students bring their skills back to their school to provide awareness about making positive choices to their peers as well as opportunities to have drug free fun. All public schools in both Marion and Crawford counties currently participate in the Junior Teen Institute program.
