Hidden in Plain Sight
Hidden in Plain Sight
Empowering Parents Through Awareness
Hidden in Plain Sight is a unique, interactive presentation designed to educate parents and caregivers about the subtle warning signs of youth substance use. By exploring a simulated teen bedroom, participants gain valuable insight into how seemingly everyday items can indicate potential risk behaviors.
Program Overview
Participants are invited to walk through a realistic mock-up of a teenager’s bedroom. Hidden throughout the room are items and indicators commonly associated with drug or alcohol use — from altered personal items and concealment devices to behavioral red flags.
The experience encourages parents to observe, take notes, and consider what might be easily overlooked in their own homes.
Identifying Warning Signs
Following the walkthrough, the presentation highlights key takeaways using a “Red and Yellow Flag” system. These indicators are not definitive proof of substance use, but they provide an important opportunity to initiate open, nonjudgmental conversations between parents and their children.
Why It Matters
Research consistently shows that parental awareness and involvement are among the most effective tools in preventing youth substance use. Hidden in Plain Sight empowers parents with practical knowledge and strategies to support early intervention and build stronger communication with their children.
